May Topic Meeting – Childbirth and Breastfeeding

You’re invited to LLL Barnsley’s May topic meeting.

When: Wednesday 1st May 2019

Time: 10am – 12noon

Where: Thurgoland – please either get in touch via the Contact page or email us

Topic: Childbirth & Breastfeeding

In this meeting we discuss how the choices you make during labour and birth, and the decisions sometimes made on your behalf at this time, can impact on your breastfeeding journey.

We look at the effect different types of medications and interventions can have on breastfeeding, and how the type of birth you have can affect the nursing relationship.

This ISN’T a meeting just for pregnant mums. Many mums find that discussing a previous birth experience can help to make sense of what followed and can help to prepare them for their subsequent baby or babies.

There’ll be plenty of opportunity to raise any breastfeeding issues and for one-to-one support from one of our trained breastfeeding counsellors.

Contributions of cakes and healthy-ish snacks to share would be much appreciated.

Babies, toddlers and older children welcome. Feel free to bring along quiet toys to entertain your children.

Hope to see some of you there.

When breastfeeding doesn’t go as expected

Sometimes breastfeeding doesn’t go as hoped for, or as expected. Some of those mothers, with a little support, guidance and practice, quickly move to a place of comfort and enjoyment and they don’t look back. But some don’t. Some of them need incredible determination to overcome problems and difficulties. Some go far beyond what even they thought they would do. And some reach a point where they run out of energy and emotion to keep going. What do these mothers need from those around them?

This article from LLLGB explores five ways to help when breastfeeding doesn’t go as expected.
